What is this
For the last year I caught myself thinking on how I wanted to start a blog
Why start
I've been falling for the internet trap that makes everything look instant. In the AI era, all can be done with a click: setup a site, a service, a business, write a blog. And I noticed that it was having a bad impact on me, where if I was not able to finish a task or a project in one day it was not worth doing it. Someone, somewhere would do it in hours, so why even try it?
Of course, if you think about it for 2 seconds (which is hard these days) you'll know stuff takes time, learning takes time, building takes time and understanding takes time. But things are always marketed as easy and quick. I began to remember of classes I would absolute despise when I was in university (funny enough statistics was one of them). I though they were a waste of time, irrelevant. In reality I was just short-sighted, the classes were there for a reason, foundation for future knowledge, part of a bigger process.
Writing in here I want to share and document my learning process. My achievements, failures but most of all the time it takes to achieve stuff.
I'm also motivated by the "learn in public" approach, which I was introduced the past few weeks when participating Machine Learning Zoomcamp from DataTalks.Club. The next articles will be documenting my journey through the cohort.
Why in english
I've been fluent in English for many years now, and working with global teams for four. I can communicate well during calls, business emails and technical documents. But still, I feel my vocabulary shallow and want to expand my capability of making long thoughts readable and understandable. Also, writing in English opens up the possibilities on how many people I can reach with this, and that's something I'm really interested in doing, connect with peers that are also learning and share our experiences.
No AI
One of the limitations I'm imposing myself to write is not using AI. It is a great tool for productivity, but that's not what I looking for here. I want to see the mistakes, let them go by, read this years later, cringe, and see my improvement (hopefully). I've also been reading articles about how AI can cause cognitive decline, so I'm keeping it away from my learning for now.
That’s it!
Thanks for reading and being interested in my journey. Hopefully I’ll be able to bring some interesting content in the upcoming weeks, see you there!
